Dr. Nicole Kaniki and Dr. Bertha Garcia, Western’s special advisors on anti-racism, will then join us to outline their work to reimagine the current processes for equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) initiatives at Western, and address how their work will activate the recommendations of the report to the President’s Anti-Racism Working Group.

Organized by Western Heads East (WHE), Global Health Equity Collective (GHEC), the Faculty of Health Sciences Student Council (FHSSC), Universities Allied for Essential Medicines (UAEM), UWO students for PIH (Partners in Health), Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research (CCGHR).

This is a 2-day conference, providing participants with the opportunity to explore, connect, and collaborate with the healthcare industry; learn from the keynote speakers, the workshops, and your peers.

Announcing the Undergraduate Global Health Equity Research Fellowship Program

The Undergraduate Global Health Equity Research Fellowship Program is a program aimed at building the capacity, knowledge and interest of undergraduate students at Western University in health equity research, with a local or global focus, or both. Six fellowship positions are available, valued at $1200 each. Each fellowship will focus on one of the following themes: racism and health; gender-based violence/trauma- and violence-informed care (TVIC); disabilities and equity; newcomer issues/challenges; homelessness and housing security; and, Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQ+ health.

Under the guidance of faculty and community partner co-mentors, the fellow will engage in research, scholarship or creative activities within their respective area of focus.

The program will run between May 3-August 27, 2021.

As governments around the world grapple with how to fairly allocate COVID-19 vaccines for maximum protection against the pandemic, an international research team [including Dr. Maxwell Smith] proposes that existing human rights law should act as a guide for politicians and policymakers.

Join the Pitt Global Hub for a special panel discussion in honor of International Womxn’s Day 2021. Our panelists will speak about the topic of “justice” in the current socio-political climate, covering issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic, anti-Blackness, fascism, socio-political unrest, and more from an intersectional feminist perspective. Panelists will speak from their personal experiences in addition to their research expertise in regions around the world.
